Russia In Supports For Annan’s Plan Of Syria Unity Government

On 27th June 2012, according to envoys, Russia and other world powers said that they will support the idea of Kofi Annan to support national unity cabinet of Syria. The idea include government and opposition members but would exclude those whose participation would undermine it. The proposal of Annan for a political transition which is made to end the 16-months conflicts in Syria. On Saturday, in Geneva, the meeting will held in the Middle East, between Russia, the other four permanent Security Council and Key players, Diplomats said. One diplomat told briefly about proposal of Annan that conflict in Syria can only terminate, when all the sides see a peaceful way to shared future.

President Of Russia : Assad Allowed To Stay In Power


The diplomat said that the idea of excluding some peoples was clearly referred to President of Syria, Bashar Al-Assad, but in the Annan’s proposal it was not clear that Assad could not serve in a national unity government. Russia has the option of insisting that President of Syria, Assad be allowed to stay in the power. The diplomat said that Russia confirmed that they accept the transition plan of Annan. Many Western diplomats confirmed his statements, and adding that all five permanent veto-wielding UN Security Council members backed it.

Another diplomat said that the acceptance of Russia of proposal of Annan, which he circulated to the five permanent Security Council members this week, did not mean that it has abandoned Assad. Russia has continuously said that it will support the idea of Annan of creating a contact group of powerful nations. Several diplomats said that acceptance of Annan’s proposal via Russia seemed to signal of shift in its stance on Syria. Annan made proposal for political transition in Syria and organizing meeting on Saturday, which include United State, Britain, France, Russia, China, Turkey, Kuwait and Qatar.
